Airbus v Ruthin Town (Under-19 Youth Cup)

FAW  YOUTH  CUP  -  U19
AIRBUS 1 v RUTHIN TOWN 2
Airbus dominated the opening exchanges forcing their opponents on the defensive.  Mark Jones, Lee Jones and Tom Littler all wasted good chances, but credit should be given to Ruthin keeper Cooledge who made a string of saves.  Airbus had the ball in the net after 23minutes but Mark Jones’ effort was ruled off-side.  Airbus continued to create chances, disappointingly not finding the back of the net.

The second half began as the first but after 5 minutes Ruthin stunned their hosts when substitute Ryan Evans burst onto a speculative ball to outpace the home defence and beat keeper Atkin.  Airbus responded and from a free-kick Lewis Burgess saw a great header palmed over the bar.  Airbus pressure mounted but the earlier, fluent, football was less evident.  On 77 minutes however Mark Jones powered past two defenders to gather a Jordan O’Brien pass which he belted past the hapless keeper.  Airbus searched for a winner but Ruthin looked dangerous on the break and proved so in the 83rd minute when Ryan Evans got on the end of a cross to put the visitors ahead.   In a frenetic finish the visiting keeper thwarted Lewis Burgess and Jordan O’Brien to claim a Ruthin victory.
